Norman Lamb Cooking Extravaganza As sparks Fly In the Kitchen

29 June 2012
North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb was pushed to the limit as he assisted Cromer and Sheringham Crab and Lobster Festival's effervescent cookery host Andreas Yiasimi.

The MP was thrown into the deep end on the day as he helped Andreas from Greek restaurant Constantia Cottage in East Runton to prepare a complex seafood dish consisting of scallops, prawns, squid, mussels, lobster and crab. Norman was put to the test straight away as he diced fresh squid and scallops against the clock while Andreas prepared the lobster and heated three frying pans ready for the action.

As utensils started flying so did the music! Zorba The Greek was queued in by zanny chef Andreas and Norman looked totally surprised. He burst into laughter. when it was requested he dance and cook to the track. Andreas said afterwards the musical finale was influenced by the unforgettable Morecambe and Wise famous kitchen routine where the duo performed a dance using various kitchen utensils and food items, including Ernie catching slices of toast as they popped out of the toaster. The crowd watching the show at the cookery theatre even broke into a dance at one point as Zorba the Greek was played.

Mr Lamb didn't hold back and seemed to be enjoying the lively procedure He said: “It was a fantastic experience working with Andy. I learned a lot - even if it was a bit scary at times.” As the demonstration reached fever pitch Norman stepped back when a liberal amount of wine was thrown into a saucepan producing a ball of smoke then climaxing with an extravagant flambé Norman said that he was proud of the final creation.

He added that he had attended the "Excellent" opening night festival variety show on Cromer Pier on Friday, and said: “This kind of event certainly brings the towns together with the friendly rivalry that they both have.

“At a very difficult time, to get people out in the community enjoying themselves and coming together is a really good thing.”

Andreas praised the organizers, volunteers and sponsors that work hard to create such a magical weekend and said he was honoured to host the cookery theatre.

He added "It was an absolute pleasure cooking with Norman. He did superbly under pressure and even though my passion and adrenaline take over when I'm on stage the whole idea was to have fun and entertain everyone watching"
